X-ray variability of Pleiades late-type stars as observed with the ROSAT-PSPC

We present a comprehensive analysis of X-ray variability of the late-type (dF7-dM) Pleiades stars, detected in all ROSAT-PSPC observations; X-ray variations on short (hours) and medium (months) time scales have been explored. We have grouped the stars in two samples: 89 observations of 42 distinct dF7-dK2 stars and 108 observations of 61 dK3-dM stars. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test applied on all X-ray photon time series show that the percentage of cases of significant vari- ability is quite similar on both samples, suggesting that the presence of variability does not depend on mass for the time scales and mass range explored. Activity and Rotation in the Young Cluster h Per

We study the stellar rotation-activity relation in the crucial age at which stars reach the fastest rotation. To this aim we have analyzed data of the young cluster h Per, very rich and compact, located at 2300 pc, that at an age of 13 Myr should be mainly composed of stars that have ended their contraction phase and that have not lost significant angular momentum viamagnetic breaking. To constrain the activity level of h Per members we have analyzed a deep Chandra/ACIS-I observation. Rotational periods of h Per members have been derived by Moraux et al. On X-ray variability in ROSAT-PSPC observations of F7-K2 stars

We have analyzed the X-ray variability of dF7-dK2 stars in the solar neighborhood detected with the pointed ROSAT-PSPC observations. Our data base is the sample of all stars listed in the CNS3 catalog (Gliese & Jahrei β 1991) having a $B-V$ color between 0.5 and 0.9; it includes 70 pointed observations of 40 distinct stars or multiple systems. We have applied the unbinned Kolmogorov-Smirnov test on all X-ray photon time series of our sample: only 10 observations relative to 8 distinct stars are variable at a confidence level greater than 99% and 4 of them belong to multiple systems. Subphotospheric convection and magnetic activity dependence on metallicity and age: Models and tests

We present an extensive study on the dependence of the convective turnover time (conv) on the stellar metallicity and age for main-sequence stars of masses 0.6{1.6 M. To this aim we have used and compared predictions by stellar models based on the classical Mixing Length Theory and models incorporating a Full Spectrum of Turbulence treatment of subphotospheric convection. We show that the metallicity eect is relevant for dG stars but negligible for dK stars, while stellar age is important when computing the turnover times for red dwarfs younger than logt 8:5 yr. Flaring Activity in Accretion Flows of Young Stellar Objects

X-ray observations have shown extensive flaring activity in young stellar associations such as the Orion nebula. Observed flares are often very long and intense, and have been associated to very long magnetic loops, which may connect the stellar surface to the circumstellar disk. As such, these loops are candidate to be also the channel of star accretion from the disk, and one then wonders whether they flare during accretion flows. As a first attack to this question we have modelled in detail flares inside long coronal loops containing plasma at high density, comparable to that presumed for accretion flows. Protomagnetar and black hole formation in high-mass stars

Using axisymmetric simulations coupling special relativistic MHD, an approximate post-Newtonian gravitational potential and two-moment neutrino transport, we show different paths for the formation of either protomagnetars or stellar mass black holes. The fraction of prototypical stellar cores which should result in collapsars depends on a combination of several factors, among which the structure of the progenitor star and the profile of specific angular momentum are probably the foremost.
